Body hair is that taboo subject that embarrasses many people but it is something that we all have so we should all address it. We all have hair where sometimes we don't want any i.e. legs, arms, underarms, bikini line as well as the pesky upper lip, face, chin, toes etc so wouldn't it be great if you could eradicate it forever by doing so yourself at home?
Laser Hair Removal has always been a professional treatment carried out at a salon and a topic of curiosity that I think most of us have had seeing as it could mean the end to shaving or waxing our legs forever. I for one have always been intrigued by laser hair removal but it has always been a very costly process and a system where you have to have many trips to the salon which put me off. Then came the 'at home' laser hair removal machines which seemed to be a good idea, but never really worked.
So talking body hair, I personally am not really a hairy person I have to say, but the thought of not having to shave my legs ever again fills me with pure joy! As I began my quest to look into laser removal once again, a wonderful brand called Tria Beauty UK contacted me to see if I would like to try their Hair Removal Laser 4X, hence I jumped at the chance. I wanted to see if todays laser gadgets really do work. Prior to receiving my parcel, I happened to stumble across a YouTube video by Nadine Baggot, famous Beauty Editor for Hello! magazine aka the Beauty know-it-all where she raved about Tria being one of the only at home laser machines to really work [here]. This of course excited me even more.
I knew that this would be a topic that would interest many of us so I am going to put this to the test to bring to you 3 blog posts all about my experience with the Tria Laser through the different stages. This initial Introduction to Tria post shall be followed up with a 6 week update post, followed by a 12 week update post which are the time lines that Tria state it's results. So as an Introduction let me introduce you and tell you a little more about Tria Beauty ....

Tria Beauty is the first and only clinically proven laser available for home use, the Hair Removal Laser 4X uses the same diode laser technology, a single spectrum of intensely concentrated pure light which targets the dark pigment in the hair follicle to disable its ability to regrow hair, resulting in permanent hair removal, a method preferred by dermatologists.
This technology differs to Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, which produces a range of different wavelengths and colours that are dispersed at various levels of depths. This means only a small percentage of the IPL energy is effectively absorbed by the hair follicle to reduce and slow down hair regrowth, but not permanently. Tria’s advanced hair removal devices offer a safe, at-home permanent hair removal solution, whereas IPL offers permanent hair reduction. This is also unlike any other devices such as the NO! NO! which burns the hair off instead of permanently removing it.
What Areas can be Lasered! The device can be used to treat various areas such as legs, arms, upper lip, chin, tummy, bikini line, under arms, legs and toes. It cannot be used on ears, nipples and private parts!
• Upto 70% hair reduction after 3 treatments.
• Hair re-growth will begin to appear lighter and finer after 4-6 treatments.
• Hair follicles have been deactivated and will no longer grow hair after 6 treatments.
Tria state that after 12 weeks you could enjoy the freedom of smooth permanently hair free skin..... now that's a claim I want to see.

The packaging is all very luxurious and as well as your device you get a full manual and charger to keep your device powered, as this has a 30 minute battery life giving you long enough to cover large areas in one. My first impression was, wow it's pink! Oh how I love the look of it and love how sleek the device is and seems almost impossible that this small machine is capable of such great things (well hopefully!). Is it me or does it remind you of Snoopy, the cartoon dog?!

The device is very sturdy and actually much lighter than I thought seeing as it is a laser machine and I love the display area as it is all so simple to use and understand. The bottom of the device contains a skin sensor (as per the picture below) which unlocks the device when pressed against the skin so it is ready to use. Now it is important to know that if you are not a suitable candidate for the Tria, as in your skin is too dark, then the sensor will not unlock and you cannot use. You then have a Pulse counter and a safety contact sensor to make sure that the skin is in contact whilst laser beams are being emitted.
You have different levels of intensity also, so the higher the setting, the more intense it shall feel on the skin but the faster it shall work. So I think I need to work my way up depending on my pain threshold should it hurt. I did notice that the nozzle itself that 'zaps' the skin is very small making me think it may take some time to cover large areas but we shall see in my next post!

As I mentioned above, Laser is not suitable for all skin and hair tones. The Tria Beauty hair removal lasers are effective on white, ivory, beige and light brown skin tones – but unsafe to use on medium brown, dark brown or black skin. It only treats natural light brown to black hair, too – not lighter hair colours, such as blonde, white, red or grey as the hair does not contain enough pigment to absorb the laser light.
I am curious to see how well this works on me because I do have fair skin and light hair but I am not white blonde so my hair does have pigment which the laser needs to work, so I have high hopes that I shall see some results.
The treatments are to be carried out every two weeks for a minimum of three months. Tria state that you can continue to shave should you need too but no waxing or plucking 6 weeks prior or during treatment.
