Hair oils have now become very much a part of all our hair & beauty regimes over the past year. The hair oil craze is due to so many exciting brands such as Moroccan Oil, Kerastase, L'Oreal, Ojon, Nuxe etc exploding onto the scene with oil products that have changed our hair for the better. Brands recognise that we all want that 'swoosh-happy, just stepped out the salon hair' which we can all try and achieve with these amazing hair oil treatments to give us the glossy, sleek, frizz-free, healthier looking hair.
Hair oils are designed to be a multi-tasking hair treatment, for instance some ways to use them are:
- as a pre-treatment to shampooing, a leave-in conditioner before styling,
- a shine enhancer for dull hair,
- to nourish dry & split ends,
- to use as a finishing product to smooth down stray hairs,
- touch-up, for dry hair that needs taming through out the day
- to speed up a blow-drying, as the oil reacts with the heat to repel the water from the hair quicker.
KERASTASE Elixir Ultimate
All hair types, 125ml, available here
First up is my ultimate favourite to date, Kerastase Elixir Ultime, a blend of four different oils - Maize, Pracaxi, Camellia & Argan. I am a huge Kerastase fan as I have used the Bain de Force range for my shampoo/conditioner for years as its just truly the only range to of transformed my fine, highlighted hair over the last few years. It is pricey but for the results you get and for a luxury product its totally worth it. I think if you spend money on getting your hair done then you need to take good care of it with investment products that suit your hair type.
Elixir Ultime looks and feels like golden silk. Its ideal for all hair types as my hair is fine and this is not too heavy, just use a lesser amount than that for thick hair etc as it is weightless. It tames those annoying flyaway hairs perfectly and generally conditions your hair which ever way you like to use it. However you use this your hair shall feel soft, supple and infinitely shiny. If you like the best of everything then invest in this hair oil.
Also available now in 3 new versions, each for specific needs. Elixir Ultime Rose Millénaire - an oil so light it feels like water, for fine hair. Elixir Ultime Moringa Immortel, which contains calcium, iron, and magnesium for damaged hair. Elixir Ultime The Imperial, which has Imperial Tea for extra UV protection for colour-treated hair.
L'OREAL Extraordinary Oil
All hair types, 100ml, available here
This is my opinion is a less pricey version of the Kerastase elixir ultimate, not exactly the same as it uses a blend of 6 precious flower extracts instead but seeing as the two companies are part of each other, its a cheaper alternative for a fabulous hair oil that works just as well! Its a real personal preference as luck would have it I actually just prefer the pricier version (worst luck!). An ideal way if your new to hair oils to try one without spending a fortune in the process but still get amazing results. Smells delicious and again feels like your applying liquid silk to your hair. Heavenly.
MOROCCAN Oil
All hair types, 100ml (available also in a 25ml size) here
Moroccan Oil was the very first hair oil that I purchased and this is what started the whole 'hair oil craze'. It was the first brand to solely focus on a hair oil and then develop into it a whole collection of hair treatments. Discovered when its co-founder was traveling in Israel, after a colour service had left her hair badly damaged. A friend brought her to a salon where she experienced an astonishing oil treatment and the result was that her hair instantly transformed from damaged to shiny, smooth and manageable.
Moroccan Oil is loved by many celebrities, runway stylists and women world-wide. The formula not only leaves hair naturally smooth and shiny but also improves its actual condition to make it stronger with each use. The antioxidant infused, nutrient rich, innovative formula with Argan oil (known as liquid gold) being the main ingredient, is very unique and provides dramatic results. Also available in a light version for highlighted, fine hair with a UV protectant, which I purchased and the bottle lasted me just under 2 years - now thats value for money! I adore this hair oil and always like to keep one in my stocks.

LEONOR GREYL Huile Du Cheveu
All Hair Types, 95ml, here
Leonor Greyl is a fairly new addition to my local Sephora in Monaco and its chic, sleek packaging and rave reviews from a close friend of mine had me intrigued. I recently tried some of this hair oil and instantly liked it but thought how good this would be to those of you with course hair. This is the first product from the range that I have tried. Its not the yummiest of scents but for those of you with thicker or dry/damaged hair then this shall work wonders, so don't let that put you off. This is an intense deep treatment full of effective, nourishing oils to totally transform and revive your hair. Its a great size to keep on you at all times if you need to apply throughout the day, especially in times of humidity, this is perfect!
SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL
BC Bonacure Oil
Light Version for fine-normal hair & also available in all hair types, 100ml here
Bonacure Hair Oil has to be the lightest oil I have tried so far and perfect for my hair type. The normal version shall obviously be richer for more course hair. Its completely weightless as it is composed of a carrier oil which spreads very finely making sure that the botanical oil is dispersed into a fine layer then evaporates when you dry your hair. So only the lovely, precious oils are left on the hair very finely.
I picked up a small bottle of this to keep for when I travel and I absolutely loved it. This hair oil absorbs so quickly and smoothes down the hair with ease giving amazing shine too. This is perfect if you have problems with heavier hair products.
So, I think you shall agree that hair oils really are a versatile hair product that are worth the hype. I have mentioned only a few that I have personally tried and tested but there are many more out there to try and I am sure I shall like many more to come. There certainly is a hair oil that suits all of us!
Go on, join in the hair oil craze!
